ASC’s PSA campaign goes multimedia
Starting this month, listen for ASC’s new 30-second public service announcements (PSAs) on radio stations across the country.

Created and produced with the generous support of Corus Entertainment Inc., the English and French PSAs communicate the role of our industry’s self-regulatory code – the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards (Code) – in setting standards for advertising that is truthful, fair and accurate. The PSAs also highlight and recognize broadcasters’ support for the Code.

These radio ads follow the success of ASC’s print PSA campaign, launched in March 2006. Thanks to the support of ASC’s media partners, PSA print ads appeared – and continue to appear – in newspapers and magazines across the country.

ASC Clearance Services presents alcohol advertising workshops
The ASC Clearance Services team will offer workshops in April designed to help alcoholic beverage advertisers gain a better understanding of the CRTC code through an interactive presentation and practical examples.

The workshops will use the new ASC Alcoholic Beverage Advertising Clearance Guide, designed to help advertisers better understand the CRTC Code for Broadcast Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages.

ASC Clearance Services presents workshops on Health Canada’s new Consumer Advertising Guidelines for Marketed Health Products
In April, ASC Clearance Services will offer workshops to help nonprescription drug and natural health product advertisers and their agencies apply Health Canada’s new guidelines: Consumer Advertising Guidelines for Marketed Health Products (Guidelines).

The Guidelines form the basis upon which ASC reviews and approves advertising for nonprescription drugs and natural health products. They replace and supercede Health Canada’s 1990 Guidelines and include, for the first time, information about consumer-directed advertising of natural health products.

ASC’s workshops will be of particular value for first-time advertisers in this category.

ASC Consumer Drug Clearance Services clients will receive an e-vite for this event in March. Contact Dora Gelntis at 416 961-6311 ext. 248 for more information.

Nonprescription drug and natural health product advertising: business as usual
Recently, Health Canada revised its policies regarding preclearance agencies for marketed health products (i.e. consumer-directed advertising of nonprescription drug and natural health products). For ASC, it’s business as usual.

“Because of our 10-year history of providing this service, we’re uniquely positioned to offer quality preclearance services for marketed health products,” says Nicole Bellam, Vice President, ASC Clearance Services.

“The analysts on our team are not only knowledgeable, they also have more than 18 years of combined experience,” adds Bellam.

In addition, the ASC team worked in close collaboration with Health Canada for more than two years to develop Health Canada’s Consumer Advertising Guidelines for Marketed Health Products (Guidelines), which provide the basis for ASC’s review of advertising for nonprescription drugs and natural health products.

Says Bellam, “Our first-hand knowledge of the Guidelines along with our practical experience means advertisers can be confident that ASC’s clearance services in this area are both consistent and reliable.”

If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Bellam, Vice President, ASC Clearance Services, at 416 961-6311 ext. 226.

Coming in April, ASC Clearance Services will offer workshops on the Guidelines. See the article, above, for more information.
