Advertising Standards Canada (ASC), the Association of Quebec Advertising Agencies (AAPQ), and the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) invite you to a session presented by the Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC ) about OPC’s new Application Guide for Sections 248 and 249 of the Consumer Protection Act concern advertising to children.
In Quebec, commercial advertising directed at children under 13 years of age is prohibited. Nathalie Jackson, counsel with the OPC, will present the new Application Guide for Sections 248 and 249 of the Consumer Protection Act that explains the obligations and exceptions under the law prohibiting commercial advertising directed to children under 13.
What are the criteria for determining whether an advertisement is directed to children? What are the exceptions provided by this law? What are the sanctions for breaches of the law? During this session you will be provided with concrete examples of enforcement action by the OPC and cases in which criminal proceedings have been undertaken.
