Join us for Advertising Canada Standards 2010 Annual General Meeting and Breakfast Program featuring keynote speaker Grant McCracken's thought-provoking presentation "Truth in Advertising Matters: Connecting Consumers with Your Brand." Our program will look at the changing nature of consumer expectation, their participation in the brand, and why honesty and truth are more essential than ever to make and keep the customer connection. To make this connection, we need to speak in literal truths and cultural ones. Grant McCracken will explore both of these.
Grant McCracken's work has been covered in The New York Times and on Oprah. As a cultural anthropologist, McCracken looks at the places where culture and commerce, anthropology and economics meet most often: marketing in general, branding in particular, popular culture, Hollywood, advertising, television, radio, magazines, newspapers, and new media.
McCracken is the author of a number of books, including Culture and Consumption, and Predicting and Managing Change in a Dynamic Marketplace. His latest book Chief Culture Officer, demonstrates why the American corporation needs a new profession and a new professional, the Chief Cultural Officer.
Born and raised in Vancouver, he holds a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Chicago. Currently a research affiliate with MIT, he has taught at the Harvard Business School and is the former director of the Institute of Contemporary Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum.
