In addition to the regularly published quarterly Ad Complaints Reports, ASC will now be posting “as they occur” case summaries.

ASC’s online report, covering the period from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2008, provides case summaries of upheld consumers’ complaints about advertising.

ASC hosts Ad Week forum: Advertising and Ethics Under the Microscope
In partnership with the Association of Canadian Advertisers, and as a contributing founder to Advertising Week, ASC co-presented the forum Advertising and Ethics Under the Microscope, on Jan. 28 in Montreal, as part of the inaugural Ad Week event schedule.

Presenters John Dalla Costa, president of the Centre for Ethical Orientation and Stéphane Lebrat, Vice-President, Angus Reid Strategies offered insights into consumer perceptions about advertising and ethics.


ASC moves to new reporting schedule for advertising complaints reports
In addition to the regularly published quarterly Ad Complaints Reports, ASC will now be posting “as they occur” case summaries, to provide more timely and responsive reporting.

The summaries will be posted online after the Consumer Response Councils have rendered their decisions and the appeal periods for the complaints have lapsed.



2008 Q4 Ad Complaints Report now online
The 2008 Q4 Ad Complaints Report (covering the period from Oct.1 to Dec. 31, 2008) provides case summaries of consumers’ complaints about advertising that were upheld by the Consumer Response Councils under the provisions of the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards.

ASC’s annual Ad Complaints Report scheduled for release in late February
ASC’s year-end 2008 Ad Complaints Report will be released in late February, as an online publication, available on ASC’s website.

This year-end report provides statistics about the number and nature of consumer complaints submitted to ASC for review under the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards (Code), as well as a snapshot of consumer concerns as reflected in their complaints to ASC over the past year.

Case summaries of complaints upheld by the national and regional Consumer Response Councils are also available as quarterly reports on ASC’s website.

ASC Clearance Services to present food and non-alcoholic beverage advertising workshops in spring
Scheduled for spring in Toronto and Montreal, ASC Clearance Services food and non-alcoholic beverage advertising workshops will provide an overview of permissible claims in the following areas:

  • compositional/quality claims including common names, ingredient declaration, and the use of such terms as fresh, natural and pure; and
  • nutrient content claims including energy claims, comparative claims, diet-related health claims including drug-like claims, biological role claims, and weight loss or maintenance claims.

NABS Fundraising Auction Starts Feb. 17
The National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) will present the 18th annual NABS fundraising auction from Feb. 17 to Apr. 17. Funds raised at the event will be used to help those in need within the advertising, media and communications industry.
